    Quickstart Guide

    Where to Buy

To share one telephone line with the FX-200 and your phone: install one of the provided telephone line T-Adaptors as illustrated on the left. Then set the “Transit In” switch on the side of the unit to the OFF position when you want to receive calls from your telephone line to your attached telephone handset. However, note that with this configuration simultaneous VOIP calls may barge into your local calls and conversations without any notice. (see illustration below)

To continue accessing the ATA/Gateway from an attached telephone handset: install one of the provided telephone line T-Adaptors as illustrated on the left. However, be advised that with this configuration you will need to set the “Transit In” switch on the side of the unit to the OFF position to avoid Transit In calls from barging in on your VOIP calls and conversations. (see illustration below)

To continue accessing the ATA/Gateway from an attached telephone handset and to share one telephone line with the FX-200 and your home phone: install both of the telephone line T-Adaptors as illustrated on the left. When you want to receive calls from your telephone line to your attached telephone handset and/or to avoid Transit In calls from barging in on your VOIP calls and conversations, remember to set the “Transit In” switch on the side of the unit to OFF.  (see illustration below)

To prevent VOIP calls from barging into your handset conversations: set either the VOIP (L1) = PSTN (L2) password thus blocking all Transit Out calls or set the number of rings before VOIP (L1) and PSTN (L2) answers the calls (see Code 11 and 12 below) to 4 rings or more. Then you should be able to answer your VOIP calls on the other line or phone before they barge into your conversations on the other line or phone.

VOIP TO VOIP BRIDGING: For those with an unlocked two-port gateway such as a Sipura:

  1. Plug the t-adaptor into the port on your Sipura with the unlimited voip service (say Broadvoice), then connect one line from the t-adaptor to the FX-200 PSTN port the other line to your phone.  Then set the FX-200’s Transit In switch to OFF so these calls will only ring the phone and go to voice mail if no answer.
  2. Then plug the other port/service on your Sipura (say FWD) into the VOIP port on the FX-200. (see illustrations below)

No PSTN Line Needed!!

All your Broadvoice calls will flow as normal and not be answered by the FX-200 but only ring the attached phone and should go to voice mail if no answer.

Your FWD calls will be answered by the FX-200 and transferred to your Broadvoice port and you can make your long distance calls through your Broadvoice service. With your FWD service and a Virtual Line (free in some cases) you can now access your Broadvoice Service remotely either through the internet via a softphone or via the PSTN via the virtual number.

Note: The Transit In switch will only turn off the PSTN to VOIP transit in function, it will not affect the VOIP to PSTN transit in function.

Note: You may have to play with the tuning procedure and the Sipura's Input Gain setting to get the disconnection to work properly.  Also be aware any FWD calls that come in while your are otherwise engaged on the Broadvoice phone line will be merged or conference automatically.
